Who was the first person you told about your depression/anxiety etc?

Hi ladies, I’ve dealt with this for 15 years. I’m 36. PLEASE take my advice and find someone trusting to talk to (sometimes a therapist or even primary doctor is best bc family or friends may not have the best advice even if they mean well...) there is nothing worse than bottling it up. In my experience it’s the worst thing you can do. Be good to yourselves, think of someone who is peaceful, non-judge-mental, trusting, calm, loving and rational and tell them you wang to tell them because if all of those reason you selected them. Talk to them when you have their full attention. It’s ok to cry. If you can get the courage to do this, I promise it’s helpful. If you’re not ready to talk to people you know or see a therapist (bc some do suck and are expensive.... although I recommend this very much bc a good one can work wonders on you) then use this message board to connect with people who understand and can positively support you. You’re not alone, you’re beautiful, you’re loved and you’re WORTH it!!! Be go to yourself first ❤️😘 sending my love and hugs to you!!

I have, I just have a problem. People tell me I’m over exaggerating, and my mom just tells me it’s puberty. But it’s not. I’ve had issues ever since my moms ex boyfriend threatened me, how my dad left me and now thinks he can just show up, and also how my moms slept with a married man. I’m 14 years old. No I did not “diagnose” myself. I spoke to my councilor about how I was feeling and Peter she told my mom I have severe depression. Yet my mom refuses to believe me and a professional counselor. She says I don’t know true depression. Know I probably don’t but I do know what it’s like to call the suicide hotline because you get so depressed. So right now I just tell no one. Or else they yell at me.

I just told someone.. I didnt have a lot of close friends and so one day I just kind of broke down on a friend and told her everything and after telling her I was able to start self reflecting. Getting a journal to write and reflect on why i was feeling what I was really helped. Soon after I talked to my closest friends about it since I wasnt close to my parents or siblings. They helped me through my shit and when I'd get into relationships my boyfriends would help me.

If you're struggling to open up to your parents and you're old enough, I would go to your doctors, talk with them, ask them if they could explain it to your parents for you - sometimes it's easier for parents to take it serious coming from a professional than it is coming from yourself (aspecially if you get emotional easily like myself)
