Birth control pills before starting stims?

Question

Did anyone need to use birth control before starting stims for IVF? 🤔 I’m wondering if taking birth control will mess with my body’s response to stims.🙁

I used the pill prior to my last cycle for 10days. Maybe even less, and my cycle was a bust with only 3 follicles on day 10. They canceled my cycle and are waiting for me to ovulate so I can begin the next protocol. The doctor says this cycle no birth control. What works for some doesn't work for everyone. It seems to be very normal but didn't work for me. Good luck.

They do it to ensure your ovaries are calm so that the Stims can allow as even growth of your eggs as possible. However, if you have low amh or any signs of low ovarian reserve this can hurt your response. This happened to me on my first cycle and my doctor said she’ll never put me on BC again. Not sure if you mentioned anything in regards to that already so my apologies if I missed it. I just don’t want someone else to go through that if it can be prevented

Thanks, ladies. It seems like it’s used to better time my cycle for retrieval. However,  I’m currently on birth control for a couple of weeks already in order to prevent ovulation or something for the saline ultrasound and trial transfer. But it looks like I also have to be on birth control before stims which will be coming up. Wouldn’t taking birth control for so long be a not so great idea? Were you on it for just a very short while before stims?
I would hate for this IVF cycle to fail.

I did on my second round.  I had a lead follicle take off in cycle one that messed everything up.  Starting the BC a few weeks before calmed my ovaries so when I started stims everything grew more slowly and together.   Had a much better cycle that time.

Yes, they put me on bc to suppress my ovaries so that the stims would cause more eggs to be produced for retrieval. I got 28 eggs.  It's a normal protocol.

Yes I did,  I'm currently on my 1st week of stims meds.  The birth control helps ensure the medication delivery timing, so that the drs know when to start the different medications. Good luck!

For me, I was ovulating around cd10, so it made sense to get my ovaries to quiet down and be truly ready for stims.

Whether or not it's beneficial to your ovarian response has conflicting evidence for and against, but mainly I think they do it to make sure patients are spaced out evenly so they don't end up with e.g. 3 patients needing egg retrieval at the same time - if they didn't have enough staff or ORs, then people would get cancelled, which would just be awful.

They put u on those so that u don't fall pregnant and as many eggs are developed for retrieval and transfer back when u r ovulating
