Pumping/ breastfeeding question

I've been breastfeeding and mainly pumping and bottle feeding because my daughter doesn't breastfeed well. If I were to spend the day attempting to strictly breastfeed because that's what we have been trying to do forever, would I still have to pump? Right now I feed, then pump, then when she wants to breastfeed again, I have no milk for her. It's so confusing to me. Any advice would be super helpful. I've been working with a lactation consultant, but she's been away for the last few weeks. Thanks!
