Does anyone elses older family members call it samich instead of sandwich?

My MIL says samich, and she is 100% serious when she says it. She's not saying it that way to be cute, or because she has a speaking impediment. It's seriously how she says it.

It annoys the piss out of me, but I of course don't say anything. I'm not sure if it's because she's older or not so I started wondering if that has anything to do with it.

(My grandmother is only a few years older than her and says sandwich)
