Are you planning on getting an epidural?

I am so scared of needles and especially one going into my spine. I’ve heard so many stories of moms with back problems after an epidural. I am 23 and already have back problems from sports and a car accident. I am going to try to go natural. Only getting the epidural as a last resort if my body will not cooperate. Like my uncle said.Women  have been giving birth for hundreds of years with no medicine. 😬

My main reason for not getting one is because I want to be up and moving around to make birth progress as fast as possible 👍🏼 I’ve been reading books and watching lots of YouTube videos on the subject and it has made me feel much more confident in my abilities. One thing a girl on YouTube said was “Contractions are not stronger than me, they ARE me” and that was very powerful. Remember the scary stories sell - they are much more interesting to hear than calm, positive stories which explains why we hear so much negativity around labor and delivery.

It doesnt actually go into your spine, close to it but not in it. And a lot of women  have back pain after labor and for years after that never had an epidural birth is traumatic and can pinch nerves and cause discs to herniate then after you have the baby carrying the kid around all the time most people favor one side keeping/ making the back hurt-- according to my chiropractor.   I hope you have a very easy labor and can do without one if thats what you want, or if you choose to get one before the contractions hurt so you dont feel any discomfort at all i hope you still have an easy fast labor and recovery.   Just because people did stuff just fine for hundreds of years doesnt mean it has to keep being done that way. People lived just fine without air conditioners and internet but im sure glad ive got it lol

I go with the flow.  I’ve had 2 epidural births and 3 natural births.  I do what feels best in that moment.  I’m a L&D nurse so if I hear the baby not doing so well I may just get that epidural so I can avoid general anesthesia.  If I’m tired and just not wanting to deal with pain I may just get that epidural.  If the labor is slow I may get an epidural.  I don’t really know until it’s in the moment for me.

I had an epidural because I had to get induced which causes extreme contractions for some and all was well afterwards 🤗.  Baby came within a hour and I was moving around after birth like no one else business lol.  For some that’s confused go with the flow.  I experienced birth with and w/out.  Both births was completely different just like everyone and their body.  Anything can happen during birth whether you get an epidural or not.

After having 2 unmedicated births, I’d rather push another baby out of my vagina vs getting an epidural.  I’ve never been a fan of big needles and like my back intact..  both my chiropractor and massage therapist (who I see regularly pregnant and non) have tons of stories of after epidural problems. That being said, my body is jacked from multiple pregnancies but I don’t have a problem with scar tissue or spine blockages.  Just aches and pains.  You can totally do it if you want to and put your mind to it!  It does hurt but in reality it’s not that bad and the pain stops with birth (just sore afterwards which you would still be anyway with an epidural).

I had one with my daughter because I was on pitocin and the contractions were unreal. I’d like to try and do it without this time because I’ve heard(from my sister who did both ways and on here) how much better and easier the recovery is. But it just depends on how little man decides to come.

I had a home birth because I was scared of the epidural. It was great honestly. It’s so empowering to get through it on your own, and recovery is so easy. Plus being able to stand and move around I think totally helps the labor process and pain management, and you can’t usually do that with an epidural! Laying on my back was the worst pain of my labor for sure.

My friend got a epideral and no longer has feeling in her tail bone its num all the time im definitely gonna pass on one as i have back problems dont need any extra pain

I had an epidural with my first and regret it.  I have back pain almost always.  This time I will go all natural.
