How do I talk to my crush?!

So I have a crush I’ve talked to him a few times before and got his Instagram, but I was super nervous and I asked him questions and stuff and he introduced himself we did all that small talk.. but how do I get closer with him? Maybe friends before dating? I’m so awkward I don’t even know where to begin. What questions do I ask/ how do I make him like me?
