Glucose test - Why did you go?

I saw my doctor this morning for our 28 weeks check up. We are now 28w 4days. 
She said I have to do a Glucose test. 
Please note - there are no symptoms of diabetes. Our son is growing perfectly. Nothing to big or to small. The are absolutley no signs that even suspect it.  She even said it will most likely come back negative.
The only reason I have to do it - is because I am over weight. 
I don't want to this - it's just one more bill I have to pay. Feel like I'm still paying the damn blood test for the for the 12 week scan. 
Why did your doctor send you for the test?

I got diagnosed with GD and I had no symptoms either. I’m a freakin diabetes nurse lol. Sometimes you just can’t predict what your body will do, and I’d rather be safe than sorry. It really wasn’t that bad.

It’s standard. 
I’ve had three and passed all three. 
The potential risk of having GD go unmanaged is far greater than the inconvenience of a test. 
It’s not bad. You drink a drink like a soda and have your blood drawn. Always better safe than sorry.

Its a standard test that most obs have everyone do around 28 weeks. I too have no signs, symptoms or anything leading to gd. Im not overweight, havent gained much and babys development is perfect. Came back negative at my 27 week appointment. Sometimes you may not have symptoms though is why they want everyone to test.

It’s standard where i am from. I am not overweight, had one previous pregnancy with no diabetes, have no family history and baby is measuring average and yet i ended up with gestational diabetes! I’m so thankful for the test and the extra monitoring to make sure my baby is safe.

I've pretty much never heard of any doctor who doesn't recommend the test. Every person I've known who is pregnant has taken at least the 1 hour test. Most people who get gestational diabetes have no "symptoms" of it. Perfectly healthy women can end up with it. In my opinion it's better to know so that you can make changes before it is an issue for you or baby.

I am pretty sure it's very standard for ALL, no matter what you are health/weight is.  I am glad I went as it showed I have low iron / anemia... I had no idea, so now I am taking iron pills and notice a big difference in energy that I did not realize was attributed to low iron and thought it was just pregnancy related :).  Get it done girl.

Has nothing to do with your weight, has nothing to do with your baby’s size.  Between 24-29 weeks all pregnant women are asked to test for Gestational diabetes.  This is nothing new.  My oldest is 15 and I had to do it then as well.  If you are untreated and you do have GD you can have a very large baby that can’t control their blood sugars at birth, as well as their temperature regulation.  Doesn’t mean your baby has diabetes.  Has to do with the way your placenta is regulating glucose.  If you have GD you are at increased risk of developing diabetes later in life.

It’s funny, I actually had a conversation with my midwife before my last appointment about not getting tested because my sugars are fine. (My father is diabetic and allowed me to use his testing stuff to make sure). 
Then she measured my belly...which I understand is not as accurate as as an ultrasound...but measuring 3 weeks ahead, I decided to go through with it. 
Sugars are fine. Iron levels fine. Blood levels, aka hemoglobin, not so much. Ironically, they have me on blood thinners. You’d think they would notice a connection but now I have to take iron supplements and face the next 12 weeks of constipation and being more uncomfortable. 👍🏻🥴
