Should I have a baby shower?

I'm having a baby girl. I already have a son who will be 2.5 when she is born. I have a lot of the things I need, but I obviously need girl clothes, etc. I'm sure I will get gifts either way, but I like the idea of still having a party to celebrate this baby, as I expect she will be my last. Is it normal to do a shower for the second baby? 
My mom wants to do a party after she is born instead, so everyone can meet her, but I am not interested in that because when my son was born my recovery was a nightmare (4th degree tear, hemorrhaging, mastitis, breastfeeding challenges, etc.)
What are you other second-time moms doing?

And I wouldnt do a party after baby’s born. It’ll be winter and sick people will be everywhere.

We are definitely having another baby shower. Hubby and I agree that a baby shower is a way to celebrate the baby! Even if there wasn’t such a large age gap between my 2, I would still have one.
My mom told me that a baby shower is just for the first baby and we shouldn’t have one (my son will be 14 in December). I told her that my “baby” is a teenager and that I want one. She’s decided to not go to the baby shower (again. She didn’t go to my first baby shower either).

I’m having another baby shower. My first baby will be three when I have my 2nd boy. I hated my first shower and never really got to enjoy it. It was thrown by my mil and sister in laws that I barely knew. It was just awkward and I hated every second of it.

I definitely had a baby shower for my second but instead of calling it a baby shower I did a baby celebration and made it coed so it wasn’t so formal. Also planned and did everything myself so it was a party I WANTED to go to. My first baby shower was a snooze fest. Lol

My mom is throwing another shower for me (crickets from my MIL again of course). We’re calling it a sprinkle since my first kiddo (a boy) is gonna be a year and a half and I don’t really need much of anything but just want to celebrate baby girl. 👧🏻

I think you should have one!! We have a good friend who just had a baby girl and they already have a 22 month old boy. They did a “Baby-Q” and people brought diapers and baby girl outfits. It was so fun and we would have bought a gift anyways so I really didn’t mind 😊. We played games and it was co-Ed. Lots of fun!

We are having a second one! We had trouble getting pregnant the first time so we gave away almost everything to people who needed it thinking it might be our only. Fast forward 4 years and now we are having another girl and starting over. 
My mom says every baby is worth celebrating and I agree ❤️

My best friend is throwing me a shower and this is my 3rd....  This one was a surprise..... my kids are 15 and 10 so we didn’t keep anything.

Most seconds with a different gender do a “sprinkle” to celebrate the new addition to the family as well as some small gifts to be special and their own when they are born 💙💗

Do whatever you want. I didnt really have a shower for my first child, i was young and didnt have many friends that would come and my family is far apart plus some of my family doesn't get along so if i invite one, i cant the other. It was just too much my mom had a half ass shower that I hated, but she was trying so i thanked her. My daughter will be 5 in less than a week and this child is my s/o first. We still dont plan to have a shower but that is again cause family and neither of us have many friends so no point. You ahould do what ever you want to do though, and yea you could do a meet the baby party later, but you sont want to do that until the baby has had enough vaccines to be around a large number of people, so it is safer to just a a shower/sprinkle/diaper party.
