When is your states kindergarten cutoff?

Just curious about all the different kindergarten cutoffs throughout the country and also your opinions on it. Do you think it’s too early to late? Would you consider holding your child back?

Studies show that kids who are older rather than the youngest do test better and graduate from college more and from better colleges. However the studies also show that parents who are better off and college educated are the ones who tend to hold their child back a year so it's hard to say if it's the holding back that results in higher test scores and colleges or because of the family the child is born into. Ours was born at the end of july so I'll make the decision the year before shes supposed to start. All kids are different some are ready and some arent. I will say though that by holding back you're taking away a year of their highest earnings so for me it's a big reason not to hold back.

Ours is by the end of the year. My birthday is at the end of the year and I started school at 4yo. I didn’t have a single issue ever. However every kid is different and I would base it on how my kid is at the time they are supposed to start school.

No option for August. Its August 1st in our state. My daughters birthday is August 15th and I had to work miracles to get her into school this year as no one told me the cutoff date. She was more than ready to go to school. I think it should be up to the parents if they think their child is ready or not.

in MI the school will tell you it’s 5 before Sept 1st but the state says 5 before December 1st. I started my son at 4, his brithday is in November. we never did preschool or day care so it was a huge leap of faith knowing he may repeat kindergarten. he did exceptionally well and could read by christmas. now he’s in first grade and academically you can’t tell hes the youngest.

My son is 3 and he can read. We are learning how to write now. He will go into kindergarten when he is 5. He knows his numbers, colors, shapes, and alphabet. 
Here, the cutoff is June. They must be born before July 1st.
