Oxygen monitor advise needed..

Is there any tips or tricks to help with monitors.. I'm about to discharge from nicu with my son. The pole sock/monitor keeps saying sen off... which I've played with both and it took me over 20 minutes to get the last one just right. What did you learn was best dealing with these?
