UK mums- what happens if we go overdue?

My midwife said she won’t do a sweep until 42 weeks unless we agree to be induced as she prefers to wait for natural labour??
39+2 today and waiting... come on baby 🥰

In the UK there is no “maximum” period of time, but definitely guidelines that they try and stick to. 
You should be offered a sweep anytime from your due date onwards. If you don’t want to wait till 42, then just ask :) 
They recommend that you schedule for an induction after 12 days but recent research has shown that there’s no adverse effects on the placenta until after well after 43 weeks. You can also turn down an induction at any point if it’s what you want. 
I’m in Scotland and most hospitals here offer aromatherapy style inductions using essential oils and pressure points. I was a bit skeptical, but it sounds like a lovely alternative or first choice option over sweeps and inductions. You should ask your midwife if it’s something they offer :)

I thought they would only let you go 10 days over due! If you haven't had baba by then they will induce you...

I'm 40 weeks today and have a sweep booked for the 18th,if that doesn't work they make me wait 5 more days after that to be induced. So it's 12 days after my due date.

I’m currently 40 weeks exactly, saw my OB this morning and couldn’t get a sweep done as baby’s head was not engaged. He recommended seeing my midwife at 41 weeks to perform a sweep and if no baby they will induce 10 days after the due date. I thought 12 days was maximum.

Also a friend of mine is pregnant and they offered her a sweep on the 20th , she is due on the 15th so only 5 days over , so it must just be different midwife/areas have different guidelines.

When I went to antenatal classes they said they would only let you go 12 days over then induce due to the placenta starting to decline maybe it's different in different places but it seems crazy to let you go to 43 weeks. I'm 39+1 and I feel you!
