C section yeast

Okay so I’m already super embarrassed to be posting this even though I know it’s common, but I just really need some tips/advice!

I went early this week for an incision check because I was having what I was certain to be yeast infection where my belly hangs over my c section site. Sure enough, it was and they sent me on my way with some nystatin anti-fungal cream. I have started using it the recommended twice daily and it has started to clear up the redness and itchiness. What it has NOT helped is the SMELL. You guys it smells so much worse than it did before using the cream 😫

Is this normal?? Is it because it’s killing the fungus? Does the cream have its own awful smell?? They really didn’t give me any instructions with this other than to apply it to the area twice daily. Am I supposed to wash it off before every re-application? Do I just apply over the last application? My husband applies it for me since I can’t see the affected area, and I am MORTIFIED to let him do it with how putrid it smells right now. I just want to get this dried up and gone because at this point it’s actually making me sick to mess with 😣😥
