good first car?

Question

im trying to save up for a car!
what are some good first cars? i dont want to get like the best car in the world because everyone wrecks their first car, so want kind of car would be a good and cheaper first car? 
also, how much should i expect to save up for a car? just so i can be aware of the approximate amount to save up. thank you!

My first car was under $2000 (an old Ford Taurus) and purchased at a buy here pay here place. It lasted 6 months before it blew an engine head gasket, which would have cost more than I initially paid to repair. 
My second car (a 2001 Ford Focus) was also bought at a by here pay here place for something in the realm of $6000. It lasted about 1-2 years before it started having problems. I probably drove it close to 5 years but shelled out a lot of money keeping it running. 
For my third car, I got tired of always breaking down and being stranded. I bought a brand new 2012 Honda Civic and until this year (when my AC compressor blew and a wire harness had an issue), I only had to deal with basic maintenance. It’s been nice.
I wouldn’t start with a brand new car, but I would recommend doing your research. After my first two experiences I decided to learn more about the vehicles I am considering before buying. For my car, I researched the most reliable sedans and the sedans with the best gas mileage. When we chose a new car, we did similar searches, but for SUVs. We bought his used, but went for a car that was only a few years old. 
On a similar note, particularly if buying used—have a mechanic or someone that knows cars check out the car before you buy it. If I had done that with my first I might never have bought it.

My first official car I that pay by myself is a 2017 Nissan Altima that I got for graduation in 2017!! My VERY frost car was a 2015 Jeep Patriot. That’s a HUGE piece if shit and almost killed me and my passenger. So definitely not a Jeep. We “sued” and got almost $9000 from them. So. I will never own a company with mopar parts again. Get one that’s great on gas mileage! And had low miles of possible
