My Birth Story 💙 Very long!

Remington’s Birth Story:

We went to the doctor at 2pm on 9/11/19. When they checked my cervix I was 70% effaced and 2.5cm dilated. Doctor decided that since I have a small pelvis, if I wanted to try to to give birth vaginally it would be best to induce that night.

We arrived at the hospital just after 8:30. They got the paperwork done and we were sent to our very own delivery room.

Mommy changed into a hospital gown and some warm socks as I knew I was going to be cold.

The nurse hooked me up to an IV and checked my vitals. Looked good!!

She checked my cervix but then didn’t say much about progress.

Next, Dr came into the room and explained that he was going to put the Foley balloon up by my cervix. This was very difficult to do. Apparantly my cervix is pretty far back so using the different tools was a pain. He tried a few different forceps sizes but each time it hurt really bad. Thankfully, I had nate by my side so I could squeeze his hand all the way through it.

After the Foley Balloom was in place my body was shaking from being both cold and in shock as to what was happening considering the pain. Because he couldn’t get the Foley in during the first few tries, he tried one last time but also with his fingers. This time we also added laughing gas so that I would laugh and not think about the pain down in the downstairs. It worked!

As I was breathing I started to laugh a bit but then the gas became really harsh. So I got a little overwhelmed and decided to breathe normal air Again and on and off the laughing gas. I could feel myself starting to get emotional and wanting to cry. I cried and felt high all at the same time. So I took more normal Breaths again and eventually it was over. The laughing gas was enough to get me to calm down and focus on something besides the pain in my cervix/vagina.

I was hooked up to Monitors just watching my vitals: heart rate, baby’s heart rate, contractions etc.

They also gave me 2 medicines. 1 for sleep and 1 for Pain relief from The contractions.

Just after midnight the medicine is made me SUPER drowsy.

My husband was such a trooper and being so

Helpful. He perked up every time I even move a muscle. He wanted to help me in every way he can. He was great.

After sleeping for a few hours, I woke up at 4am feeling like I needed to use the bathroom. So I went into the bathroom and went pee and then a ton of pain comes. The Foley Bulb was falling out. It was tight and painful. Right in the opening of my vagina. I called the nurse to come in. I couldn’t stand nor sit. Nate stood there and didn’t know what to do while I cried from the pain. I ended up tugging on the tube and it came out. I was dilated to a 5 at this point.

At 7a I received an epidural. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. They had me sit on the edge of the bed while Nate sat in a chair in front of me. I held his hands while trying to sit as still as possible with contractions hitting me. I felt a small pinch, and a rush of cold up my spine. Once the epidural was done, they gave me more time to relax.

At 10am my cervix was 10cm.

The nurse decided to let me continue to relax so that baby would continue to gradually make his way down the birth canal. (Less pushing for me that way)

At 12p I felt like I needed to poop and called the nurse in. She said it was time to start to push. With each contraction, Nate held one of my knees and the nurse held the other. They pushed my knees toward my chest and I pushed 3 times through each contraction.

After about a half hour of pushing, Remington Andrus made an appearance.

They laid him on me while wiping him off. He didn’t have a loud cry. He whimpered and quivered slightly. They were worried about his oxygen because he was being so quiet. They put him on oxygen for about 5 minutes and cleared out his throat and lungs and he began to cry a bit more.

After they weighed and measured him, they placed him on my chest and we cuddled for more than an hour. He weighed 6lb 8oz and is completely perfect.

Overall, I was blessed with an easy labor and delivery (besides that awful Foley Tube).
