Weird relationship issue

Alright so long story short my boyfriend of 3 years told me over the phone (while I was in a different city on a holiday) accusing me of absolute BS and then broke up with me. BUT the confusing thing is he has been telling everybody else that we are just giving each other space. Obviously there's a lot more detail to the story but that's just the gist of it all....
