Removing NuvaRing early... am I still protected?

So I’m 2 weeks short of my NuvaRing removal date but I’m DONE with it. After 3 months I’ve had awful side effects and I won’t be continuing it. I had similar side effects while using the hormonal IUD, my body just doesn’t deal well with hormones anymore. I’ve been using the ring continuously vs taking it out for the 4th weeks to get my period, so I’ve not had a period since the day I put it in. I want to take it out now and switch to condoms until we figure out which BC works best, protection going forward won’t be a problem but I’m concerned about the sex I’ve already had. We had sex 6 days ago and my boyfriend did finish in me, but he hasn’t since. I know sperm can live in the body for x amount of time so I’m wondering if I’m ok to take this ring out now or if I should wait longer. I know when you take it out it can induce a period or breakthrough bleeding, so I’m guessing I’ll be ok but I’ve never been on any kind of BC that I’ve had to maintain on my own (I’ve only ever used Depo shot, Mirena & Paragard IUDS) so I’m not super familiar with gaps/breakthrough bleeding vs period when stopping BC.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
