How many car seats suggested?

Question

I added 2 car seats on our baby registry. They are 3-in-1 and can be used from infant to toddler to little kid. I added 2 so that it wouldn’t be a hassle to swap between my car and my husband’s for the next 5+ years. I’m wondering if 2 is good... the infant setting is only useful for about the first 6 months or so.
Should I just have one car seat to start with and take one away from the registry? Is it worth it to ask for 2?
*update: thanks all for the info/knowledge! I didn’t know all that before but I see now, we don’t need a base for ours so we’ll go with the 2 convertible ones 🤗

I really like our Graco forever car seats but definitely prefer having the pumpkin infant seat for early days.  It probably depends on your climate, how many children you plan on having, etc if you need more than 1 type of seat.  I’m on baby #3 (in 4 yrs) and have been able to use the same infant seat (and have the travel system stroller for it).  So it was definitely worth it.  
That being said, if you live somewhere warm where you don’t mind taking the baby out of the seat every single time you get out of the car then maybe not.  Or if you’re not having anymore kids.  Or if you know you’ll have a big baby and don’t want to carry it in the seat.  I have friends that have 15-20lbs babies quickly and it’s too much to carry.  Even though it’ll be cold when this one comes, I’ll probably take her out and put her in a wrap most times since I have 2 other young ones and need my hands free.
There’s many possibilities so if you’re not sure I would go ahead and get a pumpkin seat with 2 bases and wait and see how quick they grow before buying the next step up.  Plus, whatever one you like now might be on sale then!!  
And all manufacturers have different guidelines on weight AND height when it comes to switching car seats so even if they haven’t met the weight, they could have met the height and vice versa.  Both of my babes have been rear facing until at least 2 or after.  Well one turns 2 this weekend and I have no intention on turning her around yet (in Graco forever).

You can only do the extra car seat base in another car if you get an infant car seat. The kind of car seat you put on your registry can't easily be removed and moved from one car to the next, so if you are going that route then yes I would say to register for 2 car seats if you don't want to have to switch it back and forth which is a huge pain.

Depends on the kind of car seat. We got just a basic infant car seat so we could carry him in it. If you go that way you can just settle for the one seat but get an extra base. If you’re set on getting a convertible one right now then if you don’t want the hassle of switching it out all the time then 2 sounds good. An infant car seat is good up to 35lbs so you can easily go over a year without having to buy another car seat. My son is now 14 months and only 20lb (12m check) so well in range and not even big enough for forward facing. We’re passing his infant seat to his lil sister when she comes and he will get a convertible one then. Having an infant seat I find is just way easier the first bit especially if you’re due when it’s cold, I’d hate to take a newborn out of their seat in the winter just to bring them in somewhere.

I highly suggest an infant carrier that just pops in and out of the base. With those, you can either get 2 bases or put the base in the primary vehicle and use the belt path in the other car unless you are traveling a long distance. My daughter was in hers until she was 14 months old when she finally hit weight capacity. When that happened, we got her a transitional seat.
