what age should I put my teen on birth control

what age should she be before I put her on birth control, I know she'll be out doing it before it's legal but she'll defo find it awkward if I bring it up but I'm not sure if she would do it or if she's done it before, help a mom out

I think the biggest thing is not when you should but when they're ready, there are so many different reasons to go on birth control moreso the pill than just safe sex and that needs to be reiterated to your daughter so she doesn't get the wrong message.

If she is not having sex and her periods are regular I would not be forcing her to taking birth control - every woman reacts differently to different types of birth control and it can be quite traumatising. 
These are the three biggest factors and questions you need to be having openly with her before making these decisions without her, because ultimately she should be apart of the decision making; 
1. Is she sexually active? 
2. Does she plan to be? 
3. Is she currently experiencing irregular/painful periods?

Answering yes to just one of those questions should result in going to the doctors to discuss options TOGETHER. Yes they are just teenagers, but I'm about to be a high school teacher soon; I work with teenagers everyday and this is something that should open your daughter up to be comfortable with you in the future about sex if anything was to happen relating to that topic.

My mum forced me to go on birth control at 15 in fear I would get pregnant and they way she did it really scared me. I'm not bagging out on my mum, I love her, but the way in which she went about me taking birth control was a bit 'brain washy' I guess.

14 even if she isn't sexually active just go ahead and do it. She more in likely won't tell you when she starts so it will probably be a little while before you know about it. And have a sit down and tell her you know that she will start having sexual relations just please respect yourself and make that boy earn it. Don't let him take her virginity in the back of a truck make him do something special for her. That's what my mom told me and I lost mine at 16. But was never on birth control because I didn't tell my mom that I was having sex... And then when I was 17 I got in a relationship and told my mom and then we broke up so she didn't see where I needed to be on birth control afterwards since I wasn't having sex since I didn't have a bf. Well I got pregnant at 17 I am now 18 because I didn't tell her about my other sexual relationship because I wasn't supposed to because he was to old for me... Now he is no where to be found and I will be raising my son myself with the help and support of my family. So better be safe than sorry...

I was put on it when I was 17 because I was bleeding so heavily that I passed out. I was sexually active before that one time and my parents found out and I was never allowed to be alone with a boy again. So basically I had to be taken to the hospital to finally be put on it. If I have a daughter in the future I would definitely talk to her around 15 and see where things are at for her and go from there.

I was put on it by my lady dr when I was 17. I had really painful periods, and they were very irregular. I didn't even start having sex until almost a year later. So really it just depends on your daughter in my opinion. But definitely have her go to a Dr. They have a great way of explaining things to you, or at least mine does.

I think it depends on if she is having other symptoms that birth control can clear up such as acne, bad cramps, irregular periods, etc. I was on birth control pills at 14 from these factors, and I honestly wish my mom would have let me get it earlier

I would just talk to her about it I got on birth control when I was 13 or 14 I think originally because my periods were horrible but I also lost my virginity at 13 so I think as soon as possible is best because it's better to prepare her for safe sex than not at all and end up a grandparent. I'm now 18 and still no child thank god haha!

My mom found out I had sex when I was 13 and offered to get me birth control! I'm glad my mom offered and didn't make it awkward. Now 5 years down the line, my mom and I are able to talk about sex and things like that without any wierdness because she was so open and accepting. :)
