Vanishing twin

Just had my first ultrasound, and my doctor called me the following evening telling me that there was some blood and what appeared to be a twin that had stopped growing. Having so many mixed emotions as the baby still there has a strong heartbeat but sad that we possibly had a vanishing twin. Has anyone experienced this? I figured I was about 7w4d and they said I was actually only about 6w3d.
