How to prepare for feeding? Not sure I’ll be able to breastfeed but hope I can

Hi mamas. I hope to be able to breast feed so that is my plan however I know that it just doesn’t happen for some people. Should I have some formula on hand for when the baby arrives in case breast feeding doesn’t happen? Just want to make sure the baby can get fed. The reason I’m not sure about my ability to breast feed is because my left breast never developed as a teenager but my right breast did. I then had augmentation surgery to correct this (they put 450 mL saline implant kn the left breast and 50 mL implant in the right one - not sure why they also did right since that breast developed on its own but that’s what the surgeon recommended at the time). So I’m wondering if my left breast will even produce any milk and if the small implant in the right breast will interfere with that breasts’s ability to product milk. Thanks for your answers about whether or not to have formula on hand before baby arrives!

I have implants and have had my nipples pierced in the past, I successfully breast fed my son. That said, lots of other factors can influence your production. Having a bottle and some formula handy doesn’t hurt, just in case. Nothing crazy, maybe one can of powder so you can use it in an emergency.

I would suggest it’s a good idea to buy some in case. With my first I breastfed and soon after giving birth my breasts hurt so much. I used formula for two days whilst they healed and was able to then carry on feeding.

On a side note if you sign up with similiac they send you free formula, that way you have some if you need some but wouldn't have wasted any money if it's not needed. I think other major brands probably do the same thing but I only know from experience on the similiac
