sailor 👍🏾 captain 👎🏾 ?

saw a post on here for the name Captain with hugely negative reviews and today i saw a post with Saylor (sailor) for a name, with good reviews...
just curious how sailor is an acceptable name but captain isnt?🤔

For the same reason Brooke is an acceptable name, but Waterfall isn't. Captain is a little extra....I can't imagine a grown professional man named Captain. And the jokes he'll probably get....no.
Sailor I'm also not a fan of, but at least it's not like a high title like Captain. A little more subtle.

FWIW, I don’t like Captain, Sailor or Saylor. But I think in the case of Captain specifically people don’t like it because it’s a title and a rank you earn. 
If I wanted a name with a nautical theme I would probably pick something related to water or the name of a famous historical (or fictional) captain.

In many countries (including my own) Captain is not just an unpopular name, it is actually an illegal name. It is a title therefore is not allowed to be used as a 'name'. Other titles that are illegal are: King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Justice etc

I know people named Saylor, however I only know dogs named Captain.

It's usually spelled Saylor.  Pretty common. I guess I've never heard of Captain as a name🤷🏼‍♀️

Sailor and Saylor actually have two different meanings if you look them up. I rarely see Sailor. Saylor means dancer or leaper, not the same as a sailor. That probably has a lot to do with why it’s accepted but Captain isn’t. Also, like everyone else said, Captain as a name sounds a bit extra.

My dogs are Captain and Sailor. Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for a human, I just hear captain more as a pet name.
