When to start baby on cereal?

My baby just saw her doctor at 4months (right on the day) and we wont be going back until shes 6 months. Any one know when is a good time to start her on cereal? And foods? 
My mom keeps saying I could do it any time now but I'm unsure about it being first time momma.

If your baby is showing signs of readiness at 4 months, then it’s totally fine. Signs of readiness are sitting up WITH support, showing interest in food, and being double their birth weight (around 13 pounds). Neither the FDA or AAP limit rice cereal, so I’d follow their lead. And open gut theory/waiting until 6 months is all woo, just do what works for you and your baby under your doctor’s guidance. Studies have actually shown that children exposed to foods before 6 months, but no earlier than 4 months, do better in terms of combating with food allergens. Later on (after 6 months) it potentially may increase chance of allergies. All of this information is available through the AAP website. Hope it helps.

@c I agree cereal isn’t as good for a baby as fruit and vegetables and arsenic has been found in leading brands by a study conducted by Harvard university .

We started cereal around 5 months with our first. It was more of a fun learning experience for him to prepare him for solid foods at 6 months.

Our doctor said since we are on formula and only in the 25% for weight that we should add some into her formula. We will be four months on Sunday the 22nd.

Our pedi said not until 7-8 months but we could start fruit & veggies now if we wanted. Something about studies showing babies get hooked on carbs if cereal is started any earlier. 🤷🏻‍♀️ No idea.
