Anybody else uncomfortable with v. "exams"?

First time pregnant (7weeks) and I've never had a pap test or any internal exams before. Very nervous for this as I'm a very private and reserved person. I know the doctors care less but I'm still nervous.  I know I have to get over it. Does anyone else struggle with this?

I’ve always preferred a male and most the women I know do as well. For some reason I find them more gentler and nicer about everything. It’s totally up to you and you can always switch, if you do go to a man they need to have a nurse in the room with them when doing an exam unless your partner is with you. The first time is always hard, it’s nice to have someone there to hold your hand and distract you.

Tell the doctors that you are nervous and have them walk you through what they’re going to do before they do it. I agree that if they are not understanding and at least try to make you feel more comfortable, you need to find a new doctor. You’re going to have a lot exams over the course of the next nine months, and you need to feel safe!

I’ve gone through fertility treatments for years, and paps since I was 16, so I don’t care who’s up in my business as long as its for a medical reason.

I felt the same way but by the time you’re in labor all that goes out the window.  They could’ve invited the media and it wouldn’t have mattered😂

Know also that you can absolutely request a smaller speculum if there’s a lot of discomfort when inserted/expanded. Your comfort is more important than their convenience, and any compassionate physician will agree.

Of course you feel uncomfortable we all do, I've had smears for years and no time gets better, but you just have to go in there and tough it out.
Ps  it is true what they say about labour, your pride really does go out the window and you couldnt care less, so please never worry about that

I’ve been undergoing infertility treatments for years now and internal ultrasounds are  a regular part of it. I’ve gotten more used to it but I hated it at first. One thing all of the nurses do at my RE’s office is actually hand ME the wand to insert underneath the sheet. For some reason that has eased a lot of my anxiety around it vs. every other office that just shoves it up there. Don’t be hesitant to speak up and tell them how you’re feeling or ask to insert the wand yourself if you think it might help you feel more comfortable.

I used to when I first started getting paps. but it's been years since I've had one, so I'm sure I'm about to experience that again. Doctors do care about that,  and if they dont... find a new doctor! 
I always ask for a female, let her know how your feeling and take slow calm breaths while it's happening. Especially when she's starting. It helps your body to relax. Sometimes it helps me to have my husband there.
