Is this preterm labor? 31 weeks.

Question

I’m having period cramps and I thought it was because I needed to poop but I’ve been trying to go and nothing happens. I pooped 2 times earlier today so not sure what’s happening now. Sorry TMI. My back hurts and I’ve been laying down for the last 3 hours off and on. Trying to get comfortable. Baby girl has been super active all day. Not sure what is going on. I know the duh answer is to go and get checked. I just don’t want to look like a fool if in actuality I just need to poop? Anyone else experience this?

Preterm labor is actual labor, just before 37 weeks.. so unless you're having contractions or your water broke then no.

Drink water!! Dehydration is the main cause of contractions and cramps.

You probably need to poop. This happened to me last week. Felt like pure crap..no pun intended. It was so hard to go. Sometimes I worried if it was labor, but it was just cramps. Not contractions. And when I finally went, everything felt so much better. Lol

I’d call your dr/midwife at least. I gave birth to my daughter standing over the toilet because I went in there because I “needed to poop” - the sensation of wanting to push and pooping are very similar (full term at a planned home birth so not super dramatic). It could certainly be nothing but at 31 weeks if I were you I’d prefer the peace of mind of checking.
