So this past weekend, I went on a girls trip. We recently lost my mother in law and I was her primary caretaker for only four days. FOUR! She came to live with us after i took her to the doctor and my father in law called saying he felt sick. Her immune system was already basically gone so I told her to stay with us. In a clean home with a nice bed and someone who would be home all day. (My father in law still works full time and she was alone most of the day until someone came to visit) She died at the hospital on the fourth day and basically i was gut wrenched in tears for the weeks after. Four days turned into unexpected moments of guilt, heartbreak, and absolute sorrow for my husband. I couldnt believe that this little lady who had driven me insane on some days and made me laugh on most other days. We were close-always shopping, we went on a few vacations together. I was there for her and she was me...and now she was gone.

Anywhoo... fast forward many weeks later. My husband asked that I go on the trip that my friend had planned so that 1) he could get alone time and 2.)I could just simply have a good time and not worry. I am so thankful for him because I let go during this vacation and came back refreshed. He was absolutely gleaming when I came home. We were so happy to be together, but needed that break to just get through this grief.

So after I got back, he says, my dad has something to ask of you. I was like oh? Ok..

Finally the day comes, his dad is over at our house and were grilling out. He goes, your mom in law had a special gift for you and I was wondering if you could pick it up from the store when it's done cleaning and putting the insurance in your name.

What?? At first I'm like...is it a car?

No , she left in her will this 30k ring that she bought 15 years ago. She came from a foreign country with nothing and saved for years on this ring. She wanted to bring an heirloom to the family and always kept it locked up in this drawer. I only saw it once but its remarkable.

Today, I pick up that ring and I am telling you, I am so honored to have come into this family 8 years ago and out of everyone, she chose me to start this tradition. Me. I just can't believe how honored I feel.
