My husband missed the birth

My birth plan got thrown a bit off track before labor even started. My first son came at 38 weeks so once I hit 37 weeks with #2 I wanted to make sure I was ready whenever. Well at 37w4d I was woken up at about 2, by my almost 2 year old yelling for me. I go in to his room and he had thrown up everywhere. I was hoping it was just a one-timer and he'd go back to sleep after I cleaned him up. No luck. I was up with him for about an hour before the, what I thought were Braxton hicks, started to become painful.

I was ignoring them mostly, not entirely convinced that I was actually in labor, but after an hour of them coming every 5-7 minutes. I woke my husband, who I had let sleep, and poir guy was only half awake when I through him into the chaos of a sick toddler and me being in labor. I called my mom to come watch our son, but once she got there he immediately started crying, of course wanting mom and dad when he was sick. I couldn't handle his poor little sick cries, and I was just sitting on the couch holding him in a panic telling my husband and mom that I cant have this baby today (as if I had any choice 🤦‍♀️). After about 10 minutes of my break down my amazing husband offered to stay with our son, knowing full well that he may miss the birth.

My mom and I headed off to the birth center that was only about 5 minutes away, and I honestly hated my husband not being with me, but I really needed to know that my toddler was okay and taken care of in order to focus on baby #2. We got to the birth center about 5 am, and I think finally being able to focus on labor I realized how strong and fast these contractions were coming on. I seriously had been so panicked I wasn't even paying attention to the pain. Sure enough, I was 8 cm. They were filling the tub while I was face timing my husband, and leaning over the bed.

I suddenly felt the urge to push accompanied by a pop and my water broke all over the floor. No time for a water birth. Our toddler was finally sleeping, so my husband was having his mom come over to watch him while he tried to make it to me. He didn't want to take the other car incase his mom needed to go somewhere so this man was running to the birth center about 3 miles away.

I was trying to bear down, but I was fully dialated and this baby was not waiting. Without even pushing his head was right there. And with 2 more contractions he was out. A minute later and my husband ran into the room. Our healthy second son was born at 6lbs. 11oz. and 20 inches long.

We were home hours later but 3 days later our boys still haven't gotten to meet. It's a bit of extra chaos thrown on top of having a new baby, but we really dont want him getting sick. Our pediatrician has us keeping them separated for 2 more days and I can not wait to have my boys meet each other 🥰
