Third degree tear?

Question

I just gave birth a day ago being a first time mom. When should I expect to be able to walk comfortably? Also how do I make it easier to heal when I get home. I’m spending 3 days in the hospital.

I had a second degree tear. I’d say for myself 2-3 weeks was when I felt comfortable walking. Get a donut pillow to sit on it helped me so much because certain ways I sat would hurt without it. I wasn’t fully healed until 8 weeks pp.

In my opinion in less than a week you’ll feel better. To me in the hospital bed my butt/thighs feel numb and just uncomfortable being there. Once I’m home and in my own bed on my own couch using my own toilet I’m better. Just take it slow don’t over do anything and I think you’ll be back in no time.

When I had my daughter and tore, I found that the most comfortable way to sit was on her boppy pillow because then there wasn’t any pressure on that area. 
I also used the peri-bottle that they gave me and mixed it with some water (barely warm water), and some witch hazel. You have to be careful not to put too much witch hazel or it’ll burn instead of soothe. That was my go to for weeks! 
I’ve also heard women put aloe Vera on a pad and wear it. But I never did it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tucks pads on top of perineal ice packs, peri-bottle for going to the bathroom (Frida baby has a good one), sitz baths. Take it easy and be patient with your body. I had a third degree episiotomy and it took quite a long time for things to feel better down there. Also make sure your stitches have dissolved all the way at your 6 week check up. Mine had not and it was very painful until the doc took them out.

But the biggest advice by my friend (3rd degree tear) was to get a BIG pad, put witch hazel on it and freeze it for those really sore days / other times just abit of witch hazel will help soothe it, she said she was walking alot better in a week x

I had a 3rd degree and a vaginal tear. I was still a little sore at my 6 week check up and hadn’t healed all the way. My doc didn’t clear me until 8 weeks. The intense uncomfortableness probably lasted a 2-3 weeks. I’ll echo what others have said above. Witch hazel on pads was a life saver, especially if cold. Sitz baths. They really helped with the uncomfortable tightness and itching of the stitches. Just take it easy too and make sure you take your colace!!! You do not want to poop without that on board 😖
If it’s any consolation, I did get pregnant with my daughter 12 weeks after my son was born and the 3rd degree happened, so it’s still functional even after all that 😉

Congrats on your little one! I had a bad tear as well with my first.  Did your Hosptial supply Dermaplast? That was a life saver for me. Also Tucks Pads worked well too.   I know a lot of people used ice packs but I never did.  I felt better in a few days.

Tucks pads burn! The bottle with water they give you to spray the pee off after the bathroom and then dermaplast ARE LIFE SAVERS. I also asked the hospital for extra underwear and pads and I took them home. I thought the underwear was way more comfortable than my regular ones. (Mine didn’t fit right anyway with a giant pad lol) You should be able to walk more comfortable after 2 weeks. I had a 3rd degree tear and the first week was awful but after that it gets a lot better! It’s crazy how fast we heal down there. I was feeling amazing a month after also. Congratulations :)
