Does anyone know if these work for Pediatric Veins

My daughter is 11 months and a special needs baby and doctors and nurses have never been able to find veins except for the one in her head😟😫😔 which bothers me highly. I have asked for a vein finder with them but all claim they don't have them. I'm just a desperate mother looking to help ease my daughter's pain some when getting blood draws or I.Vs.

It is so hard to watch your baby in pain especially when they are getting stuck. As an ER nurse who has cared for pediatric patients of all ages for ten years, the reason they go for the scalp vein is that it is typically bigger and more durable then those in the hand or anticubital (bend of the arm) which allows them to draw blood more efficiently without clotting and administer any medication more effectively while decreasing the chances of the vein collapsing. That being said, nurses who are allowed to access scalp veins should truly have specific and in depth training for this. I’m not sure what your hospital protocols are but it’s something to look into. Our hospital actually got rid of vein finders as they cannot pick up the depth of the vein and many time identify veins that are too small to support a needle. Likewise, if this is something that has to occur often and will continue for years to come, I would ask your doctor about a possible port placement. That ensures one stick with easy blood draw and even medication administration if needed.

my son has to get blood draws every 12 weeks. the pediatric nurses suck and always bust his veins so I told them I request someone with more experience. so somebody from the adult side comes and does it. the pediatric nurses even used the vein finder but they just suck overall :(
