High fasting numbers

My doctor and the dietitian told me to eat bedtime snack for lowering fasting numbers!!! I was eating snacks but the numbers was going up each time and they told me eat more!! But still my numbers were high and they decided to put me on insulin! But before getting the insulin, I decided not to eat anything after dinner (10-12 hrs till morning) and surprisingly my numbers get lower!! So, I don’t need the insulin anymore!
