Sweeping membranes?????

Question

I’ve looked online and it tells a brief description of what that means. But I’m still kind of uncertain about what it is exactly? And what does it feel like? How long after that could I go into labor? Does it hurt? 
Someone please help me understand this. I am 39w + 3d, and I have a check up tomorrow with my OB/GYN. I wanna be prepared when I walk in on if I want this done or not. And if it’s something I have to ask about before hand?

It basically stretches the amniotic sac away from where it attaches to your cervix. It is intended to get labor going, but only sometimes works, and does have risks and side effects. If you aren't past due I wouldn't have it done. Let baby come when baby and your body are ready. 
My birth prep  instructor gave our class a great acronym to use when deciding if we want to agree to certain interventions and when asking questions to care providers: "use your BRAIN."
B: what are the BENEFITS? 
R: what are the RISKS?
A: are there any ALTERNATIVE treatments/options?
I: what is your intuition telling you? 
N: what happens if we do NOTHING?

It sent me into labor that night. The doctor didn’t tell me what she was about to do, I thought she was just checking me, but it wasn’t the most comfortable thing ever. I wouldn’t say it was painful, but it wasn’t pleasant.

I had it done 3 times and it did nothing but give me endless Braxton Hicks. I found the actual sweep pretty uncomfortable but not painful.

I had 3 done, after having the 3rd one done my water broke an hour later and I had the baby that night.

I had one in March. It’s exactly like a cervix check, just a bit more intense 🤷🏼‍♀️
They use their fingers to like “stretch” or “unglue” your cervix or something..
Most women don’t go into labor because of it, but it MIGHT help.

I’m pregnant and a first time mom but my friend who had a baby a few year ago told me it hurt like hell. Sometimes you even have to get it don’t multiple times before it works 😩
