Should baby have his own room?

Question

I always thought (and planned) that we would share a room with the baby for the first year. We have an extra bedroom but it gets stuffy since there is no ceiling fan and right now it houses the desktop computer, entertainment center with TV, Xbox and electronic keyboard. I've been trying to plan how to fit his nursery into our room and slowly find myself wanting to use the other bedroom for him. But that will push out a lot of other furniture to who knows where! I guess my question is, how much is the nursery actually used in the first year? If I'm getting up to feed every 2 hrs wouldn't be easier if the crib, rocker and essentials are in the same room as me? So conflicted! What's your plan?? (Additional info: we will only be in this apartment for his first year, so long term planning in this space isn't necessary.)

I am personally opposed to baby rooming in with me. I've seen so many other parents with nightmare situations where kids won't ever get out of their bed. I'm 100% planning on her having her own room and not buying anything to make it easier to keep her in my room. I rather be a little inconvieneced in the first months to ensure we all sleep well for the next 18. I know people will disagree but when you see someone struggle to keep their 9 year old out of their bed it scares you!

I am doing a nursery, although i assume baby will e sleeping with us for a while. I figure were gna need somewhere to put all of the other baby stuff. Toys, diapers, clothes. And i also figure when i put the baby down for a nap and stuff than she can be in her own room and i can close the door.  I am a first time mom though so i have no idea what to do  lol

Thanks for all the comments! I think we finally decided on making him a nursery in the second room but using a bassinet in our room for the first few months (reduce risk of SIDS). But definitely naps and play time in his room. It also gives me a more private place for breastfeeding etc. Well see how it goes! We're going to build the crib this week and it doesn't fit through the door so it will stay put for a long while lol. Thanks ladies!

I kept my first daughter in our bedroom for the first 7 months because the risk of SIDS goes down dramatically after that. I had a nusery set up for her before she was born and would put her in there for naps and would also change her in there. I plan on having my second daughter in our bedroom for a while again as well but will eventually more her into her own room too. After a certain age you are absolutely going to want a room for your baby.

My kids always had their own room but stayed in a swing/pack and play in our room for the first couple weeks or until they were sleeping at least 6 hours through the night.

We shared our room with ours for about the 1st year. He slept in his own bed tho, so switching him to his own room was pretty easy.

We are in a three bedroom house and have two boys already. The new baby boy will be in our room for about the first year or so then move to a crib in middle brothers room.

Our daughter has her own room but she slept in our room for about the first 14 months. She now sleeps in her crib in her room. She is 16.5 months! We are having a son in February so he will probably be in our room for the first year at least & then move to his own room.

I had a nursery for my first and it ended up being a total waste of space. Haven't had one since. They move into rooms with siblings as toddlers.

I've had a crib or pack and play in my room for them. But that's mostly for naps or early evening when I'm not ready for bed yet. Otherwise I cosleep. So far it's been the best way to all get more sleep.

My mom kept all of us in her room for our first year but in a bassinet/crib then moved us out. My sister had her daughter in her own room and never had an issue minus convenience. But my niece was sleeping through the night fully at 3 weeks and she's now 15ish months old and has no issue with it. We were hoping to have our baby in his own room but will likely settle for a crib in our room cause we can't seem to find a place in our budget for a 2bedroom. :/
