My baby is 5weeks now and he mostly drinks formula. He was in the nicu for the first week and I didn’t get my milk in until the second. When I pump I hardly get 2 ounces from both breasts. I try to offer baby breast before feeding any formula he stays on for sometimes 10 minutes or more most times 5 minutes max before he starts to get angry I know milk supply is all supply & demand would it be ok to start just breastfeeding him to see how it goes? To see if I can infect produce enough for him to EBF?

I would talk with a LC. You’re doing it right and letting baby eat first, abc topping off with formula is fine. I would be sure to pump even after baby has eaten even if you get nothing. Sometimes stimulating a second letdown is helpful

That is what u will need to do to get ur supply reestablished. Let him nurse very frequently, which he will likely do anyway until he’s getting full for a longer period once u get more milk flowing.

You should definitely talk to a lactation consultant. But yes, you’ll need to exclusively breastfeed to signal your body to start producing enough milk. Or, you could power pump every day to signal your body to produce more. Your baby might be hungry at first, but your supply should increase when there’s more demand.

I would try it for 24-48 hours and count wet diapers. Keep in close contact with the lactation consultant or pediatrician. If your baby goes more than 6 hours without a wet diaper call to see if they want you to wait or if they want you to supplement. If there’s no signs of dehydration and baby seems content and is waking to feed regularly, then I’d continue for 5 days and then do a weight check.
