Why do people keep telling me my baby should sleep through the night?

Question

How many of your babies are sleeping through the night? And if they are sleeping through the night is this 8pm-7am or is it more 11pm-5am.
My son is 9 weeks and was born at 9lbs 9lz so a lot of people have said to me they thought he would be sleeping through by now. I get asked do you keep the lights off and not interact too much which I do.
But I don't think he should be sleeping through he's only 9 weeks and I don't mind feeding him once overnight. Yeh the extra sleep would be nice but he's only a new born baby. I thought he was doing really well he sleeps from about 8pm to 3am roughly and then goes back down again to 7 or 8am. To me one feed in 12 hours is really good but why are other people's attitudes so negative?
Also I just stopped breastfeeding him 2 weeks ago.

My 8 week old sleeps from about 9-10pm to 8-9am, but gets up to eat around 2am and 6am, so you're doing better than us!

The longest my baby has slept for is 4 and half hours. That night I woke up, saw that it had been 4 hours instead of the normal 2, looked over and saw her face down in her dockatot. I had a heart attack and pulled her up so fast. She was fine and even looked at me like, “wth I was comfy.” 😆 I think my baby is going to be a tummy sleeper so I just gotta hold out until she can roll over consistently.

My LO is 10 weeks and on night 3 of sleeping from around 11pm-6am then eats and back to bed a few more hours. But I haven't done anything differently except he just got his shots so is sleepier and is just starting to eat more at a time with longer periods in between. Every baby is different and sounds like yours is doing great. Everyone has an opinion on what your baby should be doing and when and it's infuriating to me🙄

I think that is excellent. Those are very long stretches of sleep.

That sounds really good to me. She normally goes a 5 or 6 hour stretch and then 2 hours and then another 2 hours. Some nights she wakes up after 3 or 4 rather than 5 or 6. It really depends.

My 3 month old started sleeping from 8pm to 7am at 7 weeks old. He now sleeps in his own room and still sleeps through the night.

Every baby is different there is no standard that says that a baby has to sleep thru the night by x amount of weeks. My first started at 3 months almost to the day. People used to tell me the same thing and I used to tell them that he would eventually do it when he was ready. People should really mind their business.. you’re doing great momma and so is your baby!

That sounds amazing! I were trying to get little one down earlier but he “sleeps through the night” meaning between 11-5am then I’ll feed him and put him back down till around 8something when he wakes up again. But I wouldn’t mine 3am if he fell asleep at 8

My LO sleeps typically around an average of 6-6.5 hour stretch at first at night and to me, he is sleeping through the night. I feel lucky for such a long stretch, however I’m usually up after 4 to pump then back to sleep for me. Then he’ll sleep much shorter increments until about 840/9am. He’s sleeping between 930/10 or earlier if he’s really tired.
