Genital Herpes

I've been diagnosed with this & hpv and it's been a month. Had sex a month ago and so I haven't had it since being diagnosed with it. The other day I had sex and it was good then it kinda hurt. Next day did it again and sex seemed painful. Is it normal when having these things?
