Bleeding and blood clots, miscarriage?

I am 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant. On Tuesday, I turned 5 weeks and started having slight cramping. This light cramping lasted for 3 days. On Friday morning I noticed a very light pink color in my discharge. As the day went on, I had more cramping and the bleeding increased to a dark brown/red and then to a bright red. I made an emergency appointment with with my OBGYN and she did an ultrasound. At first she couldn’t see any baby but after I went pee she could see the very beginning of a gestational sac in my uterus. But, since there was cramping and bleeding she said that I may have a miscarriage or I may come back for my ultrasound on Oct 7th and everything could be fine. But, I had to wait out the weekend. Today, my bleeding started out light in the morning and worsened through the day. I passed multiple clots that varied from the size of a dime to the size of a quarter. My doctor told me not to go to the ER unless I soaked through 1 pad in 1 hour 2 hours in a row or when I have cramping so bad nothing can help. Neither of those have happened yet so I have not gone to the ER. Has anyone had a situation like this occur? If so, have your babies survived or have you miscarried? This is my second pregnancy and with my son I didn’t take a pregnancy test until I was 9 weeks and I can’t remember if I had a period around this time with him or not as I didn’t plan to get pregnant at the time. My husband and I are having a very hard time mentally and emotionally with this and would like to hear other parents stories that are similar for hope or for reality.
