Size 18 jeans but size 24 smart trousers

Hi all,

I’m so puzzled 😔 and this has got me a little down not going to lie,

I wear a UK size 18 jeans, But I do only wear like stretch straight leg or “skinny’s”

I’m starting a new job which requires smart navy trousers. And in my horror had to get a size 24! Because my hips and bum are quite clearly wayyy to big.

Does anyone else have this jump in sizing?

Thanks all xx

A lot of stores aren’t cut like plus size clothing is. They use junior sizes. Or cut like regular clothing not plus size. And also depends on the quality of the clothing. Here in the USA we have a variety of plus size clothing stores and just like you, I’m different sizes. In regular stores I’m a 3x but 14/16w at lane Bryant but 18/20 at torrid but can wear 00 to 3 at torrid as well in dresses. All depends how they are cut, if they are stretchy or how the waist fits. If it’s an empire waist or at the belly button or below it, same with jeans some are skinny, tight in the legs like a boot cut, the boyfriend/girlfriend jeans are cut wider and I can size down in them. My mom wears regular sized clothing and always wears smaller sizes if it’s Designer clothing verses something made cheaper. Guess they put more effort or better quality of fabrics. Honestly I don’t care the size as long as I look good in it. I just dealt with this at torrid getting a dress for a wedding that I ordered online. I ordered 2 sizes just in case one does not fit and can return the other.

Totally. Bras are the same way.

Are those like dress pants? If so, I’ve found that I have to wear a bigger size in them sometimes. It’s like they are cut smaller. I also found that I have an easier time wearing my size in them in women’s instead of juniors, too.

Sizes vary massively from place to place.. it’s not a nice feeling but you’ve not actually changed shape at all because you’ve bought a bigger size! Just different styles/shop fittings etc xxx

My clothes sizes range from 30 -34 (8-12), just depending on the make.

I have bought 2 pairs of identical trousers in the same shop at the same show before and one fit, the other didn’t. I agree - ignore the sizing. It’s often inaccurate.

Yes, I'm usually a size 10 but have to get size 14 in some places and even have two size 18 yoga pants that just about fit lol. Not sure how they mess up sizing so much!

Sizing is often all crazy! If I buy a dress at bravissimo, where there's actually room for my boobs, I wear a size 16/18 depending on style. If I walk into a typical store, let's say H&M I need 20-26 to even be able to button a shirt without it having gaps between the buttonholes over my boobs, and of course it looks like a oversized unflattering tent with buttons. Just ignore the size label.
