Too often seeing parents?

Question

My boyfriend & I just got into a huge fight because I told him I was going to my moms after dinner tonight to help her with something she had asked me about. She lives 15 minutes from us. My boyfriend & I have two small kids (both under 3). My mom ADORES them, and they love her. They get so excited when we go see her. 
Usually my mom invites us over once or twice a week, sometimes for dinner, or sometimes we just meet at the park so the kids can play. Anyway- my boyfriend NEVER goes. I can count on one hand how many times he’s been there in the last year. He won’t give me a reason, other than “I don’t want to go”. 
Today, we got into a fight because he said “it’s not normal for a 23 year old to see their mom that often..not normal at all.” 
So do you think it’s too often? I love the relationship my mom & I have, and now the one she has with my kids. I want them to be close to her, like I am to my grandmother. 
Sorry for the rant.. I’m just looking for opinions.

It's completely normal to see your mom that much. I'm sure a lot of people wishes they could see their moms that much. It's also normal for him not to want to go. It's not normal for him to make you feel bad about it.

For our family, that's definitely abnormal. But it's also weird how uninvolved he's been in the last year. (Personally, I wouldn't take little ones to grandma's after dinner because that's too late and close to bedtime but maybe he was going to do bedtime with them and it was just you going.)

I think the problem is your boyfriend not your relationship with your mother. I had an ex like this one time. It didnt end well. I'm surprised you okay'd it for him to just say "I just dont want to to" for so long.

Before I had my son a year ago, I wouldn't see my mom very often. We would usually check in at least once a week to see what's new etc and she would try to plan a family dinner once a month. Now that I have my son, I see her once a week so she can have her weekly visit with her grandbaby. When he was younger she would see him two or three times a week(mostly cause she had appointments about 15 mins from my house and would stop by before going home). 
Each family is different on visit frequencies but I would never stand in the way of my fiance visiting his family and I wouldn't expect that from him.

My husband and I live about 20 minutes from my parents and I work about 2 minutes from their house. My husband works nights so I am at my parents multiple nights a week for dinner or just to spend time with them. I look at it as you can never spend too much time without your parents,  because some day you won’t be able to spend time with them anymore.

I’m 35 and see my mom a few days a week with my kids. I even talk to my mom on the phone everyday. So no it’s not weird and it is normal. It does sound like maybe and I could be wrong but maybe his relationship with his family is not a strong as yours. So he doesn’t understand your closeness with your.

It depends... for me and anyone I know that's really not normal. Even when I lived somewhat close to my mom I never seen her that much. Now that I'm 8hrs away its just mainly on the holidays or birthdays on a rare occasion. I absolutely adore my mom and love her to death. But we both like our own space, our own homes and just genuinely have our own lives. Both have families to take care of. The only time I've ever had an issue when it came to my husband being so close to his family is when he told them EVERYTHING. I mean talked about sex life, relationship issues. Nothing was off the table. Let them butt into our life and start inserting themselves way to much (constantly criticizing me over every little thing such as having one dish in the sink or I didnt baby him enough) or when theres stuff that has to get done or we had something planned already and he would ditch it for them. There has to be a balance between your little family and then your mom etc. That's just how I was raised and how everyone I was around grew up🤷‍♀️ the only person I have ever met that is insanely close with their family is my husband. And I've moved around more times than I can count and met tons an tons of people.
