Monistat if I might have a yeast infection?

Is it okay to use monistat if i think i might have a yeast infection without going to a doctor first? I'm not pregnant, I take blood pressure meds and metformin, have a healthy diet, drink about 4 liters of water a day. I'm a little nervous I might have an infection because one labia was itching for a few days and today my cm has been a little thicker than cream/lotion but not cottage cheese, no crazy smells. I don't want to buy monistat if it's not safe.
