Living undocumented documentary on Netflix?
So I know immigration and living undocumented has been discussed here before, but has anybody seen the new Netflix documentary “Living Undocumented”? Did it change any of your views regarding those that are living in the US illegally? I just started watching it and even after the first episode I’m amazed that people could think that what Trump is doing is okay in anyway. I always hear the argument that “there’s a right way to do it” but according to the documentary unless you have a family member who is already in the US legally and willing to sponsor you or you are offered a job, there is no other way to apply legally. On top of this it said that even if you do have a family member living legally in the US who is wanting to sponsor you that the wait could be 20 years. I’m just not sure how anyone can possibly wait 20 years especially if they are fleeing a violent county where they may not live to see next month. The documentary also said that previous to Trump changing policies there were certain things that wouldn’t happen. For instance they wouldn’t detain a pregnant woman, but now under his government they will.
I understand that undocumented people aren’t “supposed” to do things this way or come to the country this way but how can anyone think that “doing things the right way” is more important than someone’s life? Should there be limitations on the people that they can deport? Should they be able to deport people with young children or detain pregnant women?
