What time should my newborn be going to bed?

He is 3 weeks old. I find that if I wait too long to put him to bed, he is up all night. Is there any point in having a set bedtime for my newborn?

My son wouldn’t continuously go back to sleep after feeding until 2am! You just have to go with their schedule at that age. There is no “sleep training” so young.

My son sleeps when he sleeps. You need to learn to read when he's ready for bed, every baby has their own schedule. You cant sleep train before 6 months and even then quite a lot of people dont agree with it (I dont know your stance). I found my son settled into his own routine of going to bed between 8 and 8:30 for a few months (cant remember how old he was), went off it for a couple months, then went back on it. He went off it again in July and seems to be slowly moving back onto it. Honestly I would just listen to your baby, it takes a little while to learn all their cues so just be patient with it.

I have had a routine since the day we came home from the hospital. Bedtime routine starts at 630. My 17 month old goes to bed at 730. I have a 1 month old as well. I stick to the routine with him as well. 17 month old sleeps 730-730 and 1 month old has been giving us 5-6 hr sleep- up for 1 and a half and then another 2-3 hr sleep. I get some sleep as well bc we have a routine. But what works for one family may not work for another.

My baby turns a month old tomorrow. Since he was 2 weeks, he would take his random naps during the day and his last nap would be around 8 and I would wake him up feed and talk and play with him so he was wide awake. Then at 10 I say that’s our bedtime and he would get tired again and we would go to bed. One last quick feed and change and he’d be out until 1 or 2 and then wake up every 2-4 hours. Then by 7am or 8am he would be up and ready.

My little man when he was fresh would go to "bed" (stopped cluster feeding) and slept 4hrs at 11pm now it's 8:30-9 and it's obvious he wants to go to bed (crying, won't settle) so it's bath, boob bed and he's asleep by 10 and up at 2&4 and up for the day at 7, sometimes 9 if I'm lucky :)

My boy was going to bed very late in the beginning and every couple weeks would gradually move it up. I think he started at 11 pm, moved to 10, then 9, then 8-8:30, now at 10 months is asleep anywhere from 7:30-8:30. When he was that small I’d look for his sleepy cues, which were typically red eyebrows and yawning and as soon as I saw that I’d start bedtime.
