I think a lot of people date racists or are more racist than they have allowed themselves to be aware, 
Yes, I have dated someone who said racist things when I was young and naive. 
Unfortunately, I see it as a fact of our culture that most people have some racist thoughts or make jokes. I don't appreciate those, and if my boyfriend said something like that, I have no problem letting him know what is wrong with it, if i think something is. Imo, he has never said anything racist, not even subtly or accidentally. But I wouldn't be surprised if he has a few sentiments which are unfair.
One of my ex's who was really mean to me too said the Palestinians were animals. I almost dumped him on the spot, I felt too nauseous to know what to say.
Needless to say, there is racist propaganda circling around, and we need to calmly disarm it. I think that's more effective than being militant and shutting people out. 
Unfortunately one of my old friends is super alt right now and I can't stand to hear the horrid, blatantly racist garbage he says. I would never be able to date someone like that. Im losing one of my good friends, but I can't keep arguing with him about things that shouldn't be an argument. :/ 
So basically, I can't stomach racism, but I try to be patient with people who aren't really racist, they're just being ignorant and not wanting to listen to others experiences.
