Your definition of a relationship break?

Me and my SO are going through a rough patch and we have been for a while and i suggested a break but he thinks that means breaking up to me its just time to breathe. What's your definition?

A break in a relationship means; according to various friends who have had more relationships than me, that you are in fact broken up BUT you have the intention to get back together in X-time period.

This does mean that if you or your partner chose to be intimate with another person that typically does not count as cheating, but in reality it does end up being a source of a major grudge and most of the time the end of the relationship. As both parties realize that the relationship has reached its end.

If you'd like to take some space, and you happen to live separately, just text or call each other with a good morning, and a good night. Whatever your greetings are, do that for a week, then go Dutch on a date and talk about whatever it was that caused the need for a break.

If you're living together, try sleeping separately, and eating at different times. And if you can manage it sit in different rooms while watching tv, playing video games, knitting whatever your hobbies are aside from work.

That way you're not interacting and giving the appropriate space for each person to cool off and come up with a clear and concise list of talking points for the end of the week.

To me a break seems the same as a break up. You say a break is to get a break from being with each other same as a break up. Also if you go on a break your not working on the relationship so when you do go back from the break nothings going to be different. Breaks for me mean the same as a break up. You arent together or working with your relationship.

To me a "break" is basically a way of putting off a break up. The break never resolves anything and basically puts off what I see as the inevitable... But that may just be me.

We have literally tried everything if its not one problem it's another its soooo annoying and im sick of it.

If you all can't make your relationship work without taking a break then why is it worth staying? If your relationship isn't strong enough now and you need to be apart then what's gonna happen later, when marriage, kids, sickness etc comes along? Are you going to take a break too?

This is just my opinion. If you take a break...are you/him going to see other people? Because that will most likely happen and then there will be a third person in the mix. Someone might develop feelings, you might hold grudges against each other...who knows what could happen bc by taking a break you're inviting the unknown to happen in your relationship. Unless the break means no sex or dates with strangers and you/him are watching each other's moves. That's exhausting and unecessary.

To me same as a break up. If if you need a break there is an issue in my opinion. You don't get a break from life or marriage, so IMO I feel if you can't make it work now its not going to work, so just move on.

You should learn to communicate out your problems. A break is a breakup because it makes it ok to see other people without feeling guilty about it. If you love him, don't lose him by doing something stupid like that.
