Nickname Frustration

Stephanie

My little boy is due in January, and my husband and I have decided on the name James. I know it’s super common and even kinda boring, but I’ve always loved it and am firm on sticking to it.

My issue is that as soon as I tell anyone, the immediate reaction almost always seems to be something along the lines of “Oh, little Jimmy!” No offense to any Jimmy-lovers out there, but I’m not a fan. I’m naming my son James and that is what I want him to be called. When I say that I don’t like Jimmy, the response is usually “Well that’s what the kids are going to end up calling him” and some people have even switched to coming up with other nicknames, like Jamie or JT.

I know this is trivial, but why is it so hard for some people to just accept a name as it is?? It’s getting really annoying already and the baby isn’t even here yet. Anybody else have any experience with this?
