Is a 12 year old old enough to know what “ovulation,” “fertility,” etc. means?

There’s an over 10-years age gap between myself and my younger sister (we’ll call her “S”). Tonight while my family was visiting my mom asked me for suggestions on a period tracking app for S. The stipulations were: nothing that mentioned ovulation, fertility, pregnancy, or even information on tampon insertion (for added background on the tampon ban in my parents house: I did not learn how to use a tampon until after I had sex for the first time, at 18, because I wasn’t even aware of the fact that blood comes out of the vagina NOT the urethra before that. 🤦🏼‍♀️). 
Obviously nothing will change the way my parents choose to raise my sisters and I don’t intend to try and make them because they’re quite set in their ways, I’m just curious of others opinions on this.

By 12 years old she most likely has her period and should know everything about it. Sex education is how we avoid things like teen pregnancy people 🙄

I was 5 when my parents decided on sexual education. I could read independently at age 3, and they gave me many books at age 5 and explained it. Over the years I collected many sex education books. 
Sex education at my school was grades 1-12 
My period started at 7 
So yes, 12 is old enough

I think it is important to normalize reproduction and body functions, so no I don't think it's too young! I wish I knew what was happening with my body during my first period, only 2 years later did I learn how it actually works. And up until I was 13 I thought your nipples had to be pierced to breast feed...

Not properly educating a young girl on her bodily functions is a disservice. Sheltering or the attempt to shelter will not keep this girl from questioning them or seeking information (likely incorrect information) from outsiders.
They may as well buy her a planner and map it out on paper.

I said it depends, I think the maturity of the girl is a major factor. I teach 12 year olds and I can imagine a few of them would be able to understand it all completely as a part of life, others would find it a ‘funny/giggly’ topic and for others it would completely go over their heads.

In my opinion, this is strangely old to not have your children educated. I think the basics should be taught at 8-9 or younger if they have already begun puberty. Withholding information only creates confusion misconceptions! I would perhaps try and tell her yourself, but that is none of my business 💗
