IUD string concern

So I just gave birth in August and had never been on any birth control before and I just got my IUD put in on Thursday and haven’t had sex or put anything in my vagina so I was in the shower and thinking I’m gonna find this string (knowing that I’m gonna have to do a monthly string check I wondered how deep it was and wondering if my partner would feel it) so I tried finding it and I felt the string right away with my finger less than an inch in. Is this normal? Should I go to the er? Or should I just schedule an appointment?
