Over all a positive experience, just LONG
Over all a positive experience, just LONG.
Woke up at 1:20am on Friday Aug 9 (due date!) with some real deal contractions. Every minute and 30 seconds roughly, so pretty much one on top of the other. By about 3:30am we decided to go in for pain management if nothing else.
At L&D they checked me in and did all their assessments which took probably an hour. By the time that had passed I was in agony with these contractions, having to clutch my husbands arm and bury my face in his shoulder and wail each time. They checked me and I was only 2cm so they gave me a shot of morphine and sent me home to rest around 5:30am.
We came back to L&D around 11:00am as the morphine had worn off and my contractions had slowed down but were ramping back up in intensity now and I wanted to be where the drugs were before I got to the stage I was at earlier. They checked me and I had progressed to 4cm so they decided to keep me! I was managing the contractions still so I didn’t take anything for pain. By the afternoon I was 6cm without even needing pain control! Breathing through contractions was enough all afternoon. Eventually I progressed to active labour and I got an epidural which was magical.
Had some rest in the delivery room, but not really sleep, and they woke me around 1:00am to check me and start pushing. We pushed for three hours roughly when they decided I was not progressing, baby was too big to fit through my pelvis and we would need an emergency c-section. It’s something I have always been 100% open to if the need arose but I really didn’t expect it and it sent me into a bit of a panic. However I got over that pretty fast. The procedure was smooth and little baby was born at 6:35am this morning, August 10th 💕
