Newborn - feeding every 4 hours not 3?

My local hospital/midwives recommend 8 - 12 feeds per day.

My baby is 3 days old, Since before I gave birth I was producing a good quantity of colostrum which I collected but didn’t need after birth as I was still producing at the same pace once she came and she’s been taking it without issue.

Her latch seems fine and midwife was happy, I can see her gulping and she feeds for about 20-30 mins a time however she’s averaging 6 feeds a day and not a min of 8 as recommended.

She seems content enough though - I think?

I do find I have to wake her though for her next feed but within 5 mins of stirring her she’s fairly alert and starts bobbing her tongue out indicating that she’s ready.

Does anyone else’s baby feed around 6 times per day and do your health care providers support this or advise that you feed more?

I understand more frequent feeding will increase supply. My milk came in today and I wanted to ‘have a go’ with my breast pump (which I didn’t enjoy - it was just a free manual one that came with a set, I haven’t bought one as i wanted to see how breast feeding pans out before purchasing one). I ended up hand expressing into a bottle and had about 2oz in 20 mins which i felt was a good amount?

Any thoughts to help a confused FTM out please? ☺️
