If you are a homeowner paying a mortgage, how much money do you have leftover a month after ALL your monthly expenses are paid?

I’m meaning EVERYTHING you have to pay for a month - car payment, any debt payments, food, gas, household items, phone bills, power bill, water bill, internet, monthly subscriptions, car insurance, etc.

We split our bills in half. For each half we usually have 700-1000 leftover after everything is paid.

I think a good goal would be to put 10% of your total earnings into savings. So if you make $5000 in a month you should try to have $500 to put away at the end of the month.

My husband makes $6,083 on a regular month, so we have a few thousand left over still after all our expenses (mortgage, groceries, debts, tv/internet, insurances, savings, retirement, car payment, our fun budget, etc). This month isn't a regular month so he's making closer to $9-10k (he works at a nuclear power plant and they're in the process of replacing their fuel, so everyone's working over time. They do it every 1.5 years). So we have even more money left over at the moment.

Our expenses are about 2000 everything included.. we get about 4500 a month.. but we are still recovering from credit card debt after an unemployment spell last year..
