I second the l-lysine. but Tea tree oil will get rid of it in 24 hours. At least it has for me in the past, when using it at the first sign of it. Had 2 of them this last year, and neither of them ever turned into a full coldsore. Scabbed and healed over by the next morning.

There’s medicated mouth wash at Walmart you can buy. Happened to me one time and it hurt to smile, found myself some of that and it helped clear it right up. And the great thing about it, is you don’t need a prescription for it.
