Did any one receive negative comments when announcing they were pregnant?

Alot of my "friends" and people I know have a lot to say when I announced I was pregnant. The common statements were
1. Babies are so expensive
2. You are never going to sleep again
3. You have to change so many diapers
4. Your life is over
5. You are forever connected with you husband even if the relationship doesn't work out.
This is my first pregnancy and definitely don't know how to handle the negativity. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Everyone always shares the negative because they want you to have the same experience as them. The truth is, every baby and every pregnancy/birth is different and they just can’t be compared to each other. Comparison is the thief of joy for a reason. Whenever someone gives you advice like that, I would say something like “I’m sorry you’ve clearly had a bad experience but maybe I would appreciate figuring out my family and what I want, on my own, without negative bias that’s meant to scare me.”

Yes it’s true that babies are expensive, you do lose a lot of sleep and obviously you’re going to have to change a lot of diapers but why state the obvious?! Why not just say congratulations and move on? It sounds like it’s either jealousy, they aren’t your friends or they’re stupid to think that’s a nice reply! 
Just ignore it. It’s wonderful news! Congratulations and welcome to the baby club ❤️ It’s honestly the best thing ever! ❤️

I got the comment if “but didn’t you have a miscarriage last year?”  Yea I did, thanks.

Some may be having trouble getting pregnant and feel jealous? I know my cousin who was having trouble was the one who didn’t say anything nice when he found out. Also my mom was dying at the time and my whole family especially myself was so focused on her and taking good care of her that my Aunt and Grandma weren’t very happy and probably just saw it as one more thing to worry about and probably thought it could affect me taking care of my mom. So who knows what everyone who says negative things are going through. What really matters is that you’re happy

With my first kid I did get negative comments but you truly just have to do it for your self people think kids stop your life it doesn’t you can still accomplish what you need and want to just depends on how determined you are

I get “another one “ I have 4 kids but was said this after the first and guess what I’m 5 weeks with #5 let the rude af comments begin ( nobody but my husband knows ) and my mom of all people is always the rude one you would think she babysits all the time but she literally never does maybe one or twice a year if I’m lucky

Yes they are all those things but before they are any of them they are joy and smiles, endless love and happiness . People can be so self obsessed some times. Congratulations

Thank you ladies all for sharing your stories with me! It has really helped encourage me alot. I feel good to know it's not only me facing the negativity when announcing a pregnancy. People are so judgmental and jealous. I wish people would say congratulations and just move on.

I got comments about how quickly we decided to get pregnant after marriage. Little do they know we started “trying” a few months before the wedding. We got married 12/30/18 and positive pregnancy test 5/12/19. People always have to have something negative to say
